When It Comes to Child Discipline, Double Up on Praise, and Ditch Harsh Punishment

According to the experts, many popular child-discipline tricks may be setting parents (and kids) up for failure. According to current research, common tactics — such as withholding treasured items — fail to improve a child’s behavior. Instead, taking a more positive approach, with less harsh discipline, proves more effective. Dr. Alan E. Kazdin from Yale University suggests that parents dole out at least three or four times as many instances of praise for good behavior as time-outs for bad behavior. Additionally, giving calm verbal reprimands is more effective than shouting to express one’s disapproval of a child’s behavior. Experts also recommend that parents use specific, clear instructions instead of vague, conditional commands in order to foster children’s cooperation.

R’Club Summer Learning Prevention Program

Importance of Early Childhood Education

Early Childhood Education is very important for young children. The capacity of the brain absorbs new learning peaks at age 3. Research shows that a Toddler’s brain develops over one hundred trillion brain synapses. A brain synapse is the “wiring between the brain cells that grasps learning.” It is during this period of life that the human brain has the highest potential for new learning.
